“Like, why does it matter? Before I used to answer ‘Malay’, but now I’m trying to consciously answer ‘Malaysian’ instead.

“There’s this incident from primary school that I remember till today. Someone told me that I will be called last during Judgement Day because I don’t have a Muslim name. Of course, I was scared then but now that I’m older, I realise that a name is just a name. It doesn’t define you as a good or bad person and there is definitely no such thing as a ‘Muslim’ name. You can be named Rashid and still be a Christian.

“I’ve heard of the 1Malaysia concept, but I think we don’t need to be told to be united. We’ve come such a long way that it should already be embedded in our hearts and minds that we are united. Unfortunately, you can still see racial discrimination and polarisation. There is still this ethno-centric view that the Malays are the dominant group and their rights must be protected, and non-Malays are forever the outsiders.

“For the concept to succeed, I think the Government should stop with the race politics. It’s tiring, really. We grew up with application forms asking us to tick our race. We should stop painting a negative image of the other races, stop thinking about ‘us’ and ‘them’ and focus on ‘we’, ‘our’ and ‘Malaysians’.

“No one should be made uncomfortable in their own home. A dear Chinese friend of mine said to me once: ‘I don’t feel patriotic because I am not made to feel like Malaysia is my home, and I don’t feel an affinity to China because I have never lived there’.

“I know some Baba Nyonya friends who can trace their lineage back hundreds of years. I’m a fourth generation Malaysian. If I am bumiputra, why can’t they be, too? Clearly I have issues with the term.

“I think the main reason why we still can’t achieve total unity is because of this ‘Malay Rights’ concept. I’d rather ‘Malay Rights’ be replaced by human rights. So unless we get rid of this bumiputra status, or reform our views and policies on rights, we will never achieve unity.

“For my Merdeka wish, I’d like for Malaysians to have more voice, to be respected and heard. I wish that the Government would uphold the true essence of parliamentary democracy. I wish for the people to no longer fear and discriminate against each other, to see that we are one and the same.

“I wish that Malaysia would truly live up to the tourism spin of ‘Malaysia Truly Asia’.

Like what the title says, I've noticed of late that in Med school..when u talk about genitalia, be it male or female...it seems to be quite normal. Is this due to being professional? I should really get used to this as I never fancied such topics. lol

In lectures, u get lecturers joking about...

"Why are women's left breast usually larger than the right one?"
Yea why? Coz MEN are usually RIGHT handed.

"What is common between a toy train and women's breast?"
They are meant for children but MEN plays with them too.

"Gonorrhoea is very fragile, they cant survive in the environment...so when someone says they've got infected by Gonorrhea after sitting on a toilet bowl, they're lying"
WHY? They were probably sitting on the toilet bowl with someone else.

And yes, so this was basically 1 of the few questions I had to ask the sp's (simulated patients) who were having problems in conceiving today at Skills Centre.

To those who aren't from med school and have no idea what I'm talking about, we, as students have health history taking sessions whereby we've to find out the reason the "patient" came to see the doctor and subsequent questions relevant to making a diagnosis.

Well if the patient's a real 1, I should be keeping this confidential...

so what happened was, in the middle of the interview, the couple got pissed at each other and all emotional. It was horrendous! I basically didnt know how to continue as the issues were all so personal. Let me just share bits of my hour-long dialogue (some questions have been omitted)..

Personal details: M-50yrs, F-35yrs, married. Both were divorcee, male with a son, female with 1 son and 1 daughter from respective previous marriages.

Chief complaint: could not conceive despite trying for 2 yrs.

(after quite a few questions)

Maam' may I ask how many pregnancies have you had in total?
Well I have two healthy children
Any other pregnancies?
errr...mmmm...err..
(man shakes head)
would you prefer if I get Mr K to step out for a while to maintain privacy?

Behavioral Science (BS).. yes, it's what we medical students must study besides Anatomy, Pathology, Physiology etc... When u sit in a BS lecture, u will understand what all of us feel. I wont say that the lectures are unnecessary, make no sense or are waste of time... It's just complicatedly indescribable. Nonetheless, BS lectures can be really interesting coz it's like story telling time! =D

Not surprisingly, today's BS lecture was ~~almost~~ half full... But hey..., u guys missed something interesting. This video was shared~

I donno how prevalent this issue might be in Malaysia... but in the US, this is serious!

It's been ages since I posted anything.. I tend to get too carried away with too much fun and up-comings neglecting my blog completely..? Tsk tsk... Sorry readers =P

The many many things that kept me occupied and the awesome friends that I've made. (Especially those who have been in IMU but I didnt have the chance to blend in well with) Thank God!

The main highlight...ORIENTATION! =D
Once again, I was involve in orientation (I thought I promised not to be involved this time around?) @_@ Anyway, with no regrets... I was a spy in Group 5 - Sur5vors.. Well it was random.. I didnt actually sign up to be a spy but Bryan Ang from Sem 3 told me to join group 5 which he was OO for as a spy. So there I was, from day 1 of orientation onwards.. =)

Experience: It wasn't easy.. to be toned down like any newbie once again. U know... I can really blabber A LOT. Plus, there were so many people, be it juniors, batch mates and seniors who came to me or will call out for my name from far... "HEY PRECELIA! How are u??" which made me immediately wave my temporary ID frantically in front of em =S But fortunately freshies are usually blur with the surroundings and did not find anything amiss. Phewhh.. =P. I was so enthu, especially in the indoor and outdoor treasure hunt until they called me the S.E.J (Super Enthusiastic Junior) XD

Until......there was this day where 2 of our other spies revealed themselves since they couldnt cope with orientation any longer as they werent able to attend meetings and practices which made our leader really ANGRY. Eeks... Hence, the leader and another fellow junior started to suspect me and start lookin at my facebook photos... Too bad the privacy of my IMU Charity Home visits albums were not privatized...thus, revealed my identity. =S They were of course disappointed to find out, knowing that I only have 1 more yr in IMU =/ aww....
anyhow.. they kept secret about my identity and only revealed myself on the 2nd week which brought mixed emotions from the group.

Despite revealing myself, I was still very much with the group helping em out with the rest of the activities coz they eventually became a part of me. =) The best thing that kept us together was they werent really a senior-junior demarcation... we are ONE!
I believe they've learnt a lot through out this orientation, from team work to commitment as although we thought that the group was at a point going to break into pieces, it revived again, made a come back and finally begged 3rd placing overall with the most number of hampers.. 3!!! =D

By the beginning of the last quarter of last year, I realized that there were already 190+ people in the list of "imu friends" of mine on fb. Yeah.. I do sort my friends out in case I dont remember where I met em. (sorry I've bad memory =S)

I'm surprised by the extent of my brain cells. Never did I imagine I can remember and recite so many names of these people I personally know. Hence realizing...I'm pretty sorry if at times I look as if I've never met you. I think in many of those times... Developing country vs Developed?

As I stepped foot in Singapore for the 1st time in so many years...I was just ultimately flabbergasted with every little thing I saw and experienced. What is it that's so magnificent?
answer is, PLENTY!

Let me elaborate with some of the many photos I snapped. =)

Many would call this (ERP) a money-sucking machine. But compare their money-sucking machines and ours.. I think theirs are simply cooler. These are sorta toll booths. Each vehicle will HAVE to own a tag with preloaded $$ in their car and as they travel along streets like this, their cards will be scanned.
No wastage of man-power. *thumbs up*

Picture 2 gives me an introduction of the interesting architecture of buildings in Singapore. Except for the HDB flats.. all their buildings are impressive sights. These include schools!
Look at our favourite malls e.g. One Utama and Mid Valley... nothing but concrete walls now even almost cracking apart =S

Stalls like these have good hygiene. REALLY.
Just take a look at the sparkling clean glass shields. What we have here are probably germs infested edges..blackish deposits and what not.. =S

Project EPIC (Extraordinary People Impacting Community)
What is this all about...? Last Fri, 22nd Jan 2010, a bunch of us went down to Kuala Kubu Bharu, or more well known as KKB for community service with some really epic people. It was suppose to be a 2 day event, having to overnight at a provided dorm. However some of my friends and I only made it for the 2nd day. It was about an hour and a half's drive from KL to KKB. Upon arrival at the Orang Asli settlement in Kg Jawa Kerling, we put on gloves and each with paint started painting the houses of Orang Asli folks. I was in one of the teams in charge of painting the window panes. =) Lets allow the photos do the talking ^^

First of all, thanks Stanley for helping me out with the restoration of my wi-fi and laptop...*thumbs up* Coming online has become smooth =)

So this coming week happen to be the last week of holiday. What have I been doing? I would say, plenty of productive and fulfilling activities although sometimes I tend to be so tired and lazy, leaving me doing completely nothing besides sleeping... =S

One of the highlights is another road trip to Ipoh. As my mom's from Ipoh (go there quite often), I went not out of what's in Ipoh but for the interest of my friends who have not been there. It was an adventurous, challenging and edacious trip!

As we were not familiar with this system, we paid a drug addict looking guy RM2 each, only to find a parking ticket on our windscreens each. =_= So we went to Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh to appeal for a discount and paid off RM40 after 50% slash.. =S Says their officer, "we never paid them. So far nothing happened to our cars." Ishh!

BIRTHDAYS make me BROKE

It's been a few months now.. Guess nobody comes in here as often anymore. But hopefully traffic resumes back to normal in a few week's time. Now after taking a longgg.... break to prepare for exams... I'm back! Doing medicine is not easy, considering one have to prepare for exams weeks and months prior to exam. Imagine 2 solid months of sitting at home, studying.. and yet not feeling prepared at all. Exams after exams.. it's so boring! As all the papers we sit for are taken into account.. so we cant under perform or risk failing... =S That's that, EXAMS OVER FOR NOW! The ~~scent~~ i mean, stench of Sem 4 is lingering. Yet another year to complete, a bigger leap in life!

So what have I been doing after exams? A few things..
Celebrating Say Yee's birthday, my dad's birthday, Wei Ric's birthday (which coincides with my dad's) and Olive's birthday. Ahhh.. All these January babies. But ironically, they are no longer anywhere near babies... Ric's n Olive's 21st!! Officially adults =D Then again, that doesnt give u guys a license to get drunk and smoke and u know what =P This is the point of time where one should be making wise decisions coz ~~we're~~ u're no longer kids nor even teens...Every thought counts, every action matters! Am I prepared to be an adult? =S

For a month now... I only had less than 5hrs of internet as my modem was whacked... after its replacement, it's my siblings and I fighting over 1 miserable internet connection... hence being a good girl, I only use it when nobody else is using.. Havent got the chance to update =(

Anybody... somebody... help me~~~ with my router..... grr.....

Rotation Posting @ Hospital JHEOA, Gombak

Rotation posting was fun! There was a lot that we could learn during this posting.. especially the Orang Asli's (natives of Malaysia) culture, lifestyle and especially, the way they take western medicine. It was an eye-opening posting since the posting was not at all similar to the mundane and common Hypertension (High blood pressure), Diabetes (High blood sugar level), Hypertension, Diabetes, Hypertension and Diabetes again... I myself managed to come across cases of Hereditary Spherocytosis, Congestive Heart Failure, Tetralogy of Fallot and Tuberculosis... with findings like clubbing (loss of nail bed angle), splenomegaly (enlarged spleen), ascites (accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity). It was beneficial all in all! ;)

But since the hospital has very little patients, we did things like teaching the children and their family members the proper hand-washing method. Thing about Hospital JHEOA (Jabatan Hal Ehwal Orang Asli or Ministry of Welfare of Orang Asli) is that since they usually live in very remote areas of the country, in thick forests... health officials play a role in going into the jungle to actively search for patients to perform health screenings, transport them to the hospitals in urban areas and as such, their family members tend to follow them whereby, there's a hostel kinda building where the family members of the patient can stay with free accomodation (daily needs like food etc.). Cool ain't it?

the pumpkin's Birthday!

It was Felicia, the Pumpkin Pie's birthday... I would regard it as full of thrills amidst all the mugging for exams. It was her 21st! Cant afford not doing something for her right? Many of us with our individual lies of not going to be around to celebrate with her made her so emo but ended up with unexpected amount of JOY she was filled with, literally visible from the photos below ^^ We actually got her mom to help us out with the surprise, going down to her house the day before her birthday (25th Nov) to prepare for it while getting her parents to bring her out for dinner...

So yes, how did we enter her house?
Zhao Ming climbed in (as told by her mom LOL), got the gate's remote control from the post box and opened the gate for everyone else to go in.
Didnt the neighbours call the police?
Thank God, no... XD Though they did come out to check.

Here we go!

The candles kept blowing off due to wind... and at one point, her dad suddenly came back with her bro and we thought they were back while we were still unprepared..
We ran to the back of the house only to find out she was still in a mall =_="
Thought our whole surprise went down the drain.. thank God...!

I'm gonna share this modified made up story of my experience with people...their intentions and sincerity.

Lets say the person is Linda.. a colleague of mine. And another person, Benson, borrowed my oven. Before Benson had the chance to use the oven, Linda borrowed the oven from Benson, not knowing it was mine. However, Benson did inform me. What happened was, after Linda was done with the oven, knowing that the oven is a pretty heavy one and Linda has no car... I decided to ask her if she needs help in returning the oven to Benson since he hasn't used it. Like at least...lending her my car?
Guess what..? Linda actually said,
"Don't worry, I promise that I will return your oven in one piece."

I know it may not sound like there's anything wrong with the sentence but all I did was offer help and she just had to say "yes" or "no". So what does this mean, by having taken my sincerity for granted? Can I conclude that, only those with intentions of getting in returns are those who think of others that way too...? The world seriously needs to live a more benevolent heart...

Community Service with the juniors (M209)!

Last Saturday, 24th Oct 2009, I had to lead the fellow new members of Community Service Club (CSC) down to National Council of Welfare and Social Development Malaysia (MAKPEM) Centre in Sentul where children from the community gather to learn more about interacting, moral values and even English. This place has been made our fortnightly visit location since Tengku Budriah, Cheras (home for court order kids) are not ready for us to continue visiting. So what happened was.., Me being a noob in directions around Sentul (or anywhere else), plus never driven there on my own.. =/ gave me no choice but got directions from GoogleMaps, I managed to draw myself a fairly reliable map, also with a faint memory of the place (since I've been there 2 weeks ago), I thought I'd be fine, as a SENIOR (great responsibility), leading us safe to our destination...UNTIL..... 1 of the car got lost.. =S plus.. I made a wrong turn myself... I guess in the end after a lot of roaming around Sentul, around KL, etc... we did explore new places and got to our destination! phewhh~~ I'm sorry M209!! (though they kept saying it's alright...js feeling guilty. eeks..) What we did there that week was in conjunction with their "Community of Love" programme... so we were there to tell them more about what a community of love means and also instill some moral values at the same time. They were also required to draw an art piece each for an art contest organized by Phileo Damansara for their Christmas at the Park event..

I've been doing a lil food-blog-hopping lately and really admire the effort food bloggers put in telling readers more about food places etc. I believe many patrons of a restaurant depend very much on such free promotion as the blogging world grows. There are also a myriad of other bloggers with some blogging about cars, youtube videos, gadgets, shopping, their own life etc.. and yes..., whereas my blog is just about myself, my encounters, BASICALLY, everything PRECELIA! Very vain am I? Nah.. the reason why I started my blog is due to my fluctuating moods...I can be hyper one week.. and totally have no inspiration to start any conversations another. So I started expressing myself by typing... to allow my closest pals keep track on what I've been up to also especially coz my besties are all abroad and time difference has been a major factor to the growth in our distance..and many will ask me like Mich did PRECE!!! where have uuuu beeen?

It was Deepavali and I didnt get to join my parents for their friend's Open House-hopping... Thinking about it, Hari Raya wasn't too long ago, that I posted about my Open House-hoping with plenty of FOOD and cookies I stuffed myself with... Now it isn't too bad since I got 2 big tubs of cookies from my friend (I wonder if he allows his name to be published..). Honestly... the chocolate ones tasted good.. so does the pineapple cookies.. =D The other cookies I donno what to call em.. they are of Indian kind (like doh~) and they all had an Indian taste..(nope I'm not racist =P) So now wondering, hey friend, all ur cookies had an Indian taste but u don't ~~taste~~ smell Indian. Literally. Maybe of the many perfumes u wear..? =)

Since Laos trip, we've all know each other's favourite food and fish being in Sin Chin's top 3 listing, I decided to bring them to the apparently very famous Chan Sow Lin Fish Head Restaurant branch somewhere in Cheras. F.y.i., I didnt even know that it's famous. LOL~ And with just the 3 of us, we ordered something that can feed 5. XD 2 Fish heads and a plate of lettuce =) As usual, they were AWESOME!!!

Woot! IMU Cup has finally come to an end, with Phoenix House being 2nd in line. Not too bad but could've been a lot better. =) Nevertheless, we've tried our best and Phoenix has achieved it's glory and reputation in the house-system IMU Cup for the 1st year. Hopefully the juniors who'll be taking over behold this pride and continue to strive for the coming years for PHOENIX! ^^

It was Cheerleading competition on the very last day and the prize giving ceremony. Phoenix House came 3rd for Cheerleading. The position is not of utmost importance. What matters most is the friendship we've nurtured amongst cheerleaders, getting to know a great bunch of people... Hey, Med school is not all about studying alright?! Look, years from today...u'll be telling ur kids, "U know mama was a cheerleader in IMU last time?" LOL~ Yeah... Med School can come up with cheerleaders too! ^^ And guess what, Joash, Yuen Herng, Jonathan, Hwa-Rang, Fang Yi, Eng Hong, Ickes and Chen Hou can go tell their kids (and wife), "hey, papa was a cheerleader last time u know?" wakaka...! Cheerleading has long been rated as a girl sport. But are these guys any sissier after participating? Those who did participate are really those who are adaptable and are ultimate all-rounders! GOOD JOB GUYS! Sorry for persuading u guys so much to join but hey, u enjoyed with no regret rights? =P

Splash & Raya Open House!

There were 2 events that was held today, one being "Splash" by Swimming Club and Raya Open House by our batch, ME208 fellow Muslim batch mates. It was fun playing some games in the pool during Splash, getting everyone wet. =) There were also food served. Cheng Ing did a great job in preparing almost everything as if it was her daughter's birthday? XD haha... Btw, she's the new Swimming Club president if some may not already know. ^^

Later that night, Olive and I dried our wet-selves up and proceeded to the Open House. I was glad that I attended as I could feel the warmth of the close-knitted Muslim community and their generosity in holding such a superb event for all of us.. There were plenty of food, so much so that the refill was never ending. So imagine how ~~little~~ much I ate. XD

A special thank you to those present who gave me support from the starting point onwards before my run. It was like a whole platform of my batch mates (coz they're from Infinity Milers, coordinating the event- GOOD JOB!), calling out for me and wishing me luck although I am not a REALLY fast runner with that limping limb, that certainly motivated me to run as if I was being chased by a doggy... XD

This meant a lot coz at that point, I realize that I've great supportive friends! =)

IMU Cup so far....

Kinda big disappointment that I am in Darts for my house team but there was a flaw in score keeping, hence disallowing my team to proceed to Finals.. =( What happened was, we were against Hydra for female singles and the refree calculated a short of 50pts for Phoenix (my house), causing our opponent to lead and "win". The refree was prompted by fellow spectators about his mistake but did not take it to consideration, only to find out that he did actually make a mistake at the end when he re-calculated... but, decision was that nothing will be done about it despite asking for a fair rematch since Hydra refuse to play for another game anyhow. Guess it's bad luck, ill fate... IMU Cup seriously gotta synchronize their system with the club so that such embarrassing mistakes do not repeat itself, causing innocent parties to bear the cost on their behalf. =(

Other than that, an event with purely fair performance took place yesterday. Track & Field, with me covering 4x400m. Upon warming up at the stadium, I had a really SEVERE cramp on my right leg which I saw coming since the day before as I've been overworking my muscles of late. I applied loads of "heat rub cream" but seems like it did not improve at all until Sin Chin helped me with tensing my muscles. Thank God I was fine, at least for the first 300m of my run before my whole of right leg cramped again. However the whole run was not too bad, bagging a Gold medal. Whee~~ Finally a Gold? =/

Whee~~ Finally some time to update my blog! I've been so occupied (but no worries, IMU Cup closing ceremony is next Friday, *phewhh*), haven't had time to do anything else, this includes studying. Honestly, I'm DEAD in terms of academics >.< Ipoh (her hometown) and Tangkak, Johor (Groom's hometown) the following weekend. Dinner in Ipoh was held in Pusing Public Restaurant which serves amazingly delectable food with generous portions and great food display. There, the cousins bunch had their own mingle.. parents bunch had their own cliques... so all in all, everyone had fUN.

I had this super awesomely luxurious dinner last night that my dad arranged for with his fellow good buddies, business partners and employees @ Hee Lai Ton, Kajang. The menu was in Chinese so I did not bother to find out what will be served. XD Adding to the fact that the restaurant is co-owned by one of dad's friends, so dad trusted him to serve all the creme de la creme dishes.

As respect to dad and many corporate people (dad's friends) on the table I was sitting with, I resisted my temptation to snap photos for the advantage of blogging. XD However in the end, I couldn't stop myself when I saw the next best dish =D So.. I surreptitiously took with my phone. =P

I tried calling Ming in the evening earlier today...but there was no answer. Thus thought I was noob enough not to know how to use the i-Talk card. Called to a few number options..still there was no answer. So.......

I called her again... around 8pm. Whee!! It got through. It was probably her dad who answered. I didnt know whether to speak in English or Lao.. Anyway, when Ming got on the phone, guess what happened? I think before she even got on the phone, I heard her talking from afar.. and tears rolled out from my lacrimal glands. ='( Sadly, she couldn't understand much of what I was saying... and I couldn't talk to her much coz for half the time, I was talking to her mom instead. =/ It was also hard to get words outta my voice box since I was trying to hold back tears most the time...

Ming's mom said, Ming miss you a lot and hopes to meet you again. Really really hopes to meet you again... she has been waiting for you to go back to Lao PDR (aka Laos). She said she will never be able to forget Precelia, her sister, her beautiful sister...

Now mom has her own hotmail, msn and Skype! teehee~ Before I go abroad, I hope she gets use to these applications so that when there's no one else (except dad who doesnt even know how to function the applics) at home, she'll be able to chat with my bros and I online. ^^ The process of tutoring her wasn't difficult but at the end of the session, I believe she has already forgotten, even her password! haha.. and what to type in the columns. Is it her nickname, email or ...???

So when we were online, 1 of my bros said immediately,

Then he added my other bro into the conversation,

hahaha is it that shocking? It's a sooner or later thing =)

And when I thought I could let my mom handle the comp... she was taking 3-5 minutes to get a sentence of 5-8words posted. The most hilarious thing but was trying to hold back laughing was,

Great he understood! It simply meant "how much money did u use yesterday?"

Selamat Hari Raya all you!

I love Hari Raya Aidilfitri as I will annually follow my parents to their friend's house for visiting and the amount of cookies and fOOd anyone can look forward to is so sinful but yet so AWESOME! I got up feeling excited about Raya! ;) Got myself changed and dressed up while my whole family was waiting (as usual coz I take ages! XD). Then we headed for dad's friends' houses. 3 meals all from 11am-2pm =_= Skipped breakfast and dinner!
The 1st house, wOw!! So much to eat.. started off with the cookies... they were all gOOd!!! Unlike cookies during Chinese New Year which are more simple butter cookies type. >.<

After more than 10 cookies I stuffed myself with, it was main course! I had Nasi Impit and Lemang with peanuts gravy, beef rendang, ayam masak merah, vege curry and a delectable bean curd dish. Beyond description I tell u! Then back at the hall, I chomped my way on cookies again...LOL

House No.2... Walahh.. MORE COOKIES! This time, even CHOCOLATE moist cakes!!! Salivating much...I indulged myself with the blissful cakes and cookies =D Then ate more from the main course area... another type of rendang and ayam masak merah. All was GOOD!

House No.3 I knew I was near bloated. Or already was...But I was told to try the laksa which my mom say was awesome. XD Then ate a few cookies AGAIN... yeah~ I'm a cookie and chocolate fanatic. When it comes to anything with chocolate, it's kinda difficult to refrain myself from trying at least a bite. haha...
Besides, the mood to eat started yesterday night. It was already 8+pm...with dinner usually at 6.30pm, I would eat very little or skip dinner already but I felt like eating A LOT and having something REALLY SPICY. On top of the spicy Ocean Noodles from our favourite Tian Yian Vegetarian Cafe, I added chilli padi and Sambal. However instead of feeling ecstatic and numb, it didnt seem to have much effect on me. =( Then I stuffed myself with more side orders which I will usually allow my dad to finish coz I wouldnt usually eat so much but I gobbled em all up.

Paradoxically, I'm dieting for my cousin's wedding the coming Sunday. Maybe I should stop contradicting myself already... =/

The past week has been such a tiring one for me. The chance to grab 2 more Bronze medals hasn't been quite satisfying at a whole since I've always aimed HIGH. With insufficient sleep through out the week, matches, trainings etc everyday... I was very much exhausted by the end of yesterday. However, instead of being in a knock-out state, I've been awake after barely 5hrs of sleep again, besides getting up intermittently during sleep, on a cooling 1st day of a week long holiday..., in a state of mind I know I would eventually succumb.

For all I know, I should rather walk alone.
Even if I failed a thousand times, I would try a thousand and one.
The feeling is pure, it will remain there, however not destined to be.
May God shed some light upon this beautiful dream
or crush it so it's not remembered.

I live an individual whom I was brought up as. Compassionate, happy, thankful and faithful I shall remain.

It is confirmed that my External HDD is to meet its grave. May you RIP. Sighhhhhssss~~ I have loads of information in there till the fact that I dont remember what's in it and all is gone. I felt like crying when the technician told me that they will have to discard the device and replace it. I know at least..., I'll be getting a brand new model...at any time, even better than the present one but I was in a dilemma between retrieving my data and getting a new HDD. If I were to send it for data retrieval, it meant that I have to pay at least > RM300 to somewhere not under the responsibility of Buffalo (the brand of my HDD). Any tempering to the device causes devoid of warranty which means I have to get a brand new HDD and total my cost to RM600 or more. =(

I kept mum.

At least at that moment, I had someone to comfort me and not really of cheering me up but since I had a fun day... I shall just accept ill luck... warghhh!!! ='(

It's 09/09/09..! I deserve to spend this meaningful date with a bunch of down-to-earth pals I've recently started to hang out with. Well, we actually met from Qiqi and I cheering for the Phoenix badminton team. They're really nice and generous people, a mixture of Pharm, ME208, ME109 and ME209 etc... sports can really bring all the different faculties together.
The thing about us is, we are never pretentious. With the "loud-speakers" of the group and insults we throw each other...still, united we stand...!

From the First Aid class exactly a year ago we had during orientation, did we actually learn anything? We probably had..but how many of us can remember and apply when it comes to times of a real emergency? Even the junior from St John's ambulance has only panic to overwhelm him.

During badminton match yesterday, a girl got her shoulder dislocated when she was about to hit a shuttle. We resorted to calling the ambulance as she was in intense pain. Apparently...as the paramedic got down from the ambulance..

Lol~ Yeah.. it was our practical CPR instructor...Boon Tat. We were kinda distracted from the casualty for a second. Not such a nice way to meet again, but at least it was good to meet each other again. ^^

As I dont have my NICER shots (quoting licia) with me coz they're in my ext HDD to upload and update..., today's update shall be, the reason I slept at 4.30am and got up at 8am. I didnt plan to wake up so early and since on the exam prep week.. my usual bedtime time was 4am.. hence I couldnt sleep early that weekend after exam. But unfortunately..my phone buzzed at 8am. Mom called to ask me to prepare for hiking with our family friend. Yeah.. she called =.= haha
We also spent the whole morning, afternoon and night together... and the highlight was, we visited our dad's friend's magnificent house with awesome interior designing.

But I just have to forget things! I forgot to bring her address to the post office. On top of that, no wonder my external hard disk couldn't be detected by the photo shop's comps.. Only this noon, I got a senior to transfer more of the runway photos into my hard disk... Knowin' after I plug the HDD into my comp, that it has malfunctioned and it says "your USB device is not recognized"

A late update on the M207 Malaysian Studies Project where they had a Malaysian Day (20th Aug 2009)... Themed, Road to 2009. There were performances like Malay Dance, instruments etc as well as their main highlight, Fashion Show. Apparently they asked a few of us IMU students to showcase some clothes sponsored by Josephine (from Galeri Sri Endon), Pusat Kraftangan Negara (National Handcrafts Centre) and The Mod House. So here we played dress up... and below are the pictures behind the scenes. The sem was really good in the organizing of this event to the extent that they even gotten sponsors for hairstyling and make-up. They actually introduced us as IMU Next Top Models.. =.=

At brunch today, I received calls from a private number. Besides Sha, (or maybe Reagan if u guys remember...lol) no one else' number would appear Private. But once I saw the caller ID, I knew that second that it was a call from LAOS!!! As I answered,

(dub...) The line was cut off... Every single time Jimmy/Ming called, it would last less than 30sec. Sighh..And I couldnt call back as the caller ID did not appear. =( But.. it wasn't that bad as the next minute, the call came again.

My car is back with it's brand new window installed. =) I bet driving in the car again will be quite nerve wrecking but life goes on I presume.. After that incident, I jokingly posted this on my facebook

According to him, he kinda think the motorcyclist had broke the glass to my passenger seat window and the pillion rider gave it 2 more blows then after. Mmm... I think they were eyeing on my bag. For handbags, I would usually cover it with my cardigan but never thought the big bag to uni was a bait. No matter big, small, ugly, pretty...Now all bags must go into the boot says dad. :/ Mind u, I was relieved as my dad's brand new camera was also in there. >.<

As I was waiting for the traffic lights to turn green while driving home from Uni at about 7.20pm just now, my car's passenger seat window was crashed by a pillion rider (Malay) of a motorcycle who then sped off. ='( It scared the ....... out of me. I have no idea what the 2 bastards' motives were but hack... I'm pissed!

I would usually be extra vigilant about driving at night (though this doesn't do much) but since it was still bright, I was actually reading while waiting for the traffic to move. Hence for not being cautious of my surroundings, it added to a greater amount of trauma. Everything was so sudden and the next thing I know, my window shattered, glass pieces everywhere and my car was just next to a bus filled with patrons, yeah...everyone witnessed it but what can they do right? Peak hours, when everyone's on streets after work...and yet these BASTARDS had the guts because yeah...nobody can literally do anything. What can I do even by getting their plate number?

Dessert and 2nd breakfast (2nd coz I already had my breakfast) before lecture on Thursday turned wild......~ We ordered this much, plus there were 2 char siew paos and then lastly, fruits rojak. =.= I personally enjoyed the whole morning as it was just the girl gang! Said us, we don't need GUYS to hurt our feelings. LOL!

Then it was a brand new morning (today), brand new outing to meet Mr Yong, our A-levels Maths lecturer with much conspiracy (not his fault) coz of the A-Levels Board etc... sigh sighh... which made me lost interest in Maths.. 1 subject which I've always gotten an "A" for...Anyways, went to visit him coz it has been ages since we last met. Besides, I promised to visit him during my holidays but did not. =( Yes, a promise is a promise ^^ (quoting Licia here actually) At his staffroom, he pointed to the photo of me and him, saying that people had been asking if I was his daughter.
He said "Yeah yeah...she's doing medicine! Can't be wife or mother right?"
hahaha.......
Then we went to Sunway Pyramid and had lunch in Dragon-i where I treated him.. (since he treated Olive and I once @ San Fransisco Cafe before.. where we really ordered a lot! LOL~)
It was also nice to be with Sin Yen, Xin Wei and Ewe Jin again. I felt so college-ish as this is the very few times we actually have our college lecturer and friends reunion! To those who couldn't turn up, there were busy or not around. I miss COLLEGE!!! Miss the group!!! =(

I came across this in The Star newspaper this morning and realize that we have people with the most brilliant ideas in the world. One that can never cross my mind.Abandoning their parents in hospitals, probably with their very first thoughts,
"my son/daughter is so filial...they are sending me to the hospital coz I'm sick...etc.."
Only to know that it was their last chance to see them... Absolutely heartrending, leaving me speechless.
Then I asked mom over breakfast,
"I wonder what kinda people these are.. how can such thing cross their mind?" (Coz I'm really curious and if I really come across such person, I swear I'll condemn em badly...)
Said mom, "Their parents had probably ill-treated them when they were younger...probably abandoned them and did not provide for them. Therefore to them, it's not worth to care for in return?"
I still think it doesn't make sense coz they're still our parents... No?

=(and I thought this was some how related to me coz we've (IMU second Sem) been there...
If I knew earlier.. I would've visited the geriatric ward...

Lao PDR Day 11 - Luang Prabang ---> Vientiane

It's time to say goodbye to the World Heritage site. =( Another 10hrs bus ride back to Vientiane but fortunately it was a more comfortable VIP Bus.. definitely a price to pay..US$ 25.. XD When we were about to arrive at Vientiane, Peter told us of a monthly gathering dinner that Singaporeans staying in Vientiane would attend at Novotel and had cordially invited us to "party" the night with em... How sweet of Peter to have kept it for a surprise but instead, I was flabbergasted as I was planning to take a tuk tuk (Cab) back to Xaysettha Village that night to bid farewell to the children one final time. As we got to Novotel, I was already quite worried that it wouldn't be possible to return to the school/village anymore and we definitely won't want to interrupt their sleep. After my dinner, I started asking around if others were interested in going back to the school and many showed interest. Hence, I spoke to Peter...also apologized for ditching the "party" and we left for the village.

Peter presented us with Sin and Epo, traditional Laos skirt and scarf that night. In exchange, we presented him a lamp carved into the shape of a Dragon to signify Dragon Lodge.

Lao PDR Day 10 - Luang Prabang

After visiting the Museum... or was it the museum? I forgot coz I didn't enter as the entrance fee was a bomb..a whoping 40,000kips (RM16) or was it more? Just for a museum visit and which forbids pictures taking.. =.= anyways, we were separated into smaller groups where Sin Chin, Qiqi and I went exploring the town and poached for more Ice-cream. =D We then gathered back and left for Kuang Si Waterfall..!!! It was the best recreational waterfall that anyone can ever visit since as compared to Niagara Falls in Canada, u can only look at the waterfall and get splashed or even risk having ur boat capsize..And Angel Falls in US is just as dangerous to swim in..
The minute I entered the conservation forest where Kuang Si Waterfall was located, there was a strong welcoming feel I sensed. There was also a Bear sanctuary which I think was a well worth place to visit (20,000kips - RM8). The place was undeniably tranquil and serene which I would regard as heavenly. ^^ Just take a look yourself at the adorable teddy bears and literally BLUE waterfall...

Lao PDR Day 9 - Luang Prabang

The very same morning we got to Luang Prabang, we went for a stroll around Sackarinth Guest House where we stayed. Luang Prabang is one of UNESCO's World Heritage Site. The place was indeed heritage-looking, comparable to Malacca. Before we visited a few temples, we went for breakfast at a mamak restaurant. Although Peter had already warned us that Luang Prabang is a place of much slower pace as compared to other states in Lao PDR (aka Laos Please Don't Rush), we as MALAYSIANS were as impatient as ever. We waited nearly 1hr for the 1st food to arrive which were just 2 pieces of chapati that Farhana and I ordered. Then in daze, we thought just like other Indian cuisines, we were expecting probably Curry or Dhaal that complements the chapati. But as we waited, there were no signs of any gravy. Hence, we asked for Dhaal. Here came (after about 15min) a bowl of yellow gravy which the boss claimed was Dhaal. It tasted pretty good to me, but very buttery and cheesy taste. Unlike our local Dhaal.

That was not it. So the rest of the group waited nearly 2hrs for their food and in between, Mark began saying,
"Mereka memang lambat. Kita sudah tunggu hampir 2 jam untuk sarapan kita." (or something similar).
Then came the boss,
"Which part of Malaysia are you from?"
O_o think about it, instead of "where are you from?"
Then Mark said, "KL...and you?"
"Butterworth"
LOL!! Now lets say that it actually isn't safe to use any language for private conversations in public. Just whisper? =P
Guess what, the bowl of Dhaal alone costs about RM5...=.=

Lao PDR Day 8 - Vientiane

Passi Ceremony day. We were expected to dress more formally although I totally had no idea what the occasion was about. As it was raining the night before, I did not have the chance to get any gifts for the children as pre-planned. Hence, the morning before we left for school, we ran over to a market nearby and I grabbed a few t-shirts as gifts for some of them. Unfortunately, there wasnt much time and it was already time for us to leave. So I only managed to get 5 shirts and a English-Laos Dictionary which I shared with Sin Chin for Ming.

This was the last day that we were on duty in school as the next day was "Passi Ceremony" (some kinda thanksgiving ceremony) which means FEASTING! So yeah, I made full use of today.. and was even about to break down in tears already when the thought of it came to my mind.

Lao PDR Day 6 - Vientiane ---> Pang Kern

We went to Pang Kern for paddy planting..

Saw plenty of pineapples along our way and stopped by a lorry of pineapples

I bought 5 pineapples for 3000kip each =D (about RM1.20 each)

Have ur say on this! Before the Malaysian government (schools) even started with teaching Mathematics and Science subjects in English, my high school, Sri Cempaka Schools has already implemented it back in 2004 when I first joined. I have to agree that the transition was a tough one but I certainly had fun. Personally, I had fUN searching for the correct terms for apparatus like, "tungku kaki tiga" (or something like that) which means "tripod"...and "kayu uji berbara" is "burning wooden splinter" whereas "kayu uji menyala" is "glowing wooden splinter". It's just utterly weird how the Malay terms came about... glowing = menyala. And so "menyalakan lampu" will be "glowing the light". XD I'm just being ridiculous.

Anyways, I still think I didnt have that much problem with learning Maths and Science completely in English (then even without any text/reference books that were available in English. Although we tried using Singapore's but that was just $$ down the drain coz of the difference in syllabus). We had to rely on notes provided by our teachers purely self-translated from the national textbooks written in Malay. Hence here came my then teacher, reading out the notes for us to copy...

Rabun jauh ==> Far-sightedness a.k.a hyperopia/hypermyopia
Rabun dekat ==> Near-sightedness a.k.a myopia

and so we began to doubt her proficiency... which she took ages to clarify her blunder. After being a teacher in my school for a couple of years, known for being a good Science teacher...didnt help at all. Weeks later, she vanished out of sight, RESIGNED. So why leave the torment on those innocent bright students out there when it's actually the teachers who are losing out? The teachers who couldn't cope? The teachers who haven't been putting enough effort? TRAIN YOUR TEACHERS!!!

ps: our teacher was then replaced by Puan Noris, an affable hard-worker, who went all out in guiding us through Maths and Science in English. ^^

Since my school was one of the very few schools which began teaching Maths and Sci in English for all levels year 2004 onwards, I graduated and went to A-Levels proudly knowing all the Scientific terms already not needing to memorize all over again and cracking our head. (e.g. Why Potassium and not Kalium?) =D

Now that the house is left to just mum, dad and I (and my maid...and the 3 mischievous dogs of course) ... I wont say that it's a lot more quiet and peaceful as my 1st bro has always been in NZ for a few yrs now.. and my 2nd bro, when he had been in Malaysia, he had always been in his room or not at home.. LOL~ But thing is, there's now 1 person less at the dining table.

My emphasis here is, I'm really sorry if I have to reject on going for outings. For me to consider whether to attend or not, there are a few preferences. Whether it's at night, on weekdays/weekends...where the venue is...? How much will I spend or how long will I take? And whether I have had any outings already in that week. Basically, going out at night means I gotta leave mum and dad to themselves at home. Besides, dad often comes home later than mum...and usually, mum and I would have dinner together.. Without me, mum will have to eat alone. :/ And things like going somewhere and leaving my parents alone at home is just a dilemma for me. Friends had been telling me, "beg your parents to allow you to go out for just 1 night...they will understand." However it isnt about them not allowing me to go out (coz they do. unless exams are drawin near) but it's the GUILT in me.

When I'm gonna leave for PMS in a year and a half's time (that's if I brave through my exams safely), I cant even choose whether to stay at home or go out anymore.

Coming together every single day with these people means a lot. The 12days spent in Laos is never to fade from each of our conscious minds. Every single day, I know I miss that peaceful and tranquil land that had brought us much happiness, fun and last but not least, FOND MEMORIES. Apart from being in their traditional costumes together, we had our REUNION. Basically went to catch Transformers and dinner while practicing on our pa sa Lao (Laos Language). We also went for Krispy Kreme which I didnt like. I am still a J.Co fan. Even Big Apple and Dunkin Donuts rox my taste buds better than Krispy Kreme though the last time I had in Bali didnt taste that bad. Oh wellz~
Anyways, the cheeky Qiqi played Nobody by Wonder Girls at Krispy Kreme and I broke down in tears. =.= Thanks Qiqi.. LOL. Nobody is basically our Laos trip's theme song..everywhere we went, never did we fail to sing, hum or hear the song. More details about the song in the limelight will be updated in future Laos Updates.

Bro left yesterday but I couldnt send him off to the airport as my parents had an appointment right after that in Seremban and therefore wouldnt be able to send me back on time for my lecture at 1.30pm. His flight was at 1.40pm. :/ bahh... ishhh....

Only managed to send him off after breakfast outside our house and the ever emotional me dashed back into the house, to my room... and lalala... if you know me well, u will know what happened. ~.~

You've never know what you've got till it's gone. Since young, I've always bullied or love arguing with this bro of mine. Maybe coz of the minute age gap. Only a year older. Or due to some reason in specific, I'm not quite sure of. He may have some weaknesses, yet, nobody's perfect. Maybe coz our personalities clash. Both short-tempered. XD But I must say that he had provided a large amount of serendipitous care to this annoyin lil sis of him. Like...been helping me fix my car's problemS (with a big S coz he's the one that helps me settle the many problems my car had been give me.) Ahh...gonna leave this hanging on purpose. ^^

I've been so caught up that Laos trip update will be postponed... =P There will be more updates over the whole of next week so do keep an eye on my blog. =)

Lectures on Friday now starts at 2.45pm followed by PBL 2 at 4pm. But since yesterday's PBL was brought forwarded to 10.30am and ended at 12pm, a few friends and I decided to go out for lunch together. (Which I'm suppose to be on a diet) O_o The Pan Mee at Jojo Pan Mee was so alluring that I couldnt resist my temptations but to help myself with a bowl of Chilli Pan Mee. The folks then began singing me a birthday song. =.= Thanks but hahaha.. it was already the 3rd of July, 17 days past my birthday. How sweet of everyone. ^^ Thanks a bunch!!! Apart from paying for my bowl of noodles, I also received lilies which Esther and Felicia clandestinely went to buy. Now this was why I was being ordered to follow another car.. Thanks all you who shared the flowers although I dont know who but appreciate Felicia, Esther, Wei Ric, Chun How, Jeffrey, Zhao Ming, Si Han, Wolfey and Satchid's presence. Made my day~

Lao PDR Day 4 & 5 - Vientiane

Day 4
It was the English Team on duty today. They did a very good job telling stories and teaching the students some English songs which all of them enjoyed. We got to know the kids more today and started to remember their names better. It was however more construction work for me since I'm not in the English team. I learnt how to lay bricks and cementing. It was fun working with the construction workers and other volunteers who were willing to teach and guide us although work could have proceeded faster without our help.

In the afternoon, we visited the National Rehab centre again to donate a sack of sticky rice as well as for a tour. We saw how the blind used computers as well as write in braille characters. We also visited the prosthetic limbs workshop. At the visitors centre, we bought COPE (Corporative Orthothic and Prostethic Enterprise) t-shirts as a form of contribution to the centre's funds.

For dinner, we walked to Fathima Restaurant with Lay (Dragon Lodge's Accounts staff member). After dinner, we chatted while roaming the streets of Vientiane and Lay led us to a place famous for Laos ice-cream. Indeed it was AWESOME! We tried the ice-cream which came with sticky rice and it wasnt that bad a fusion. Since the owner/founder of the stall was so nice, I wanted to have more hence ordered an ice-cream on cone which ended up receiving 5 to 6 cones for free. ~_~ She refused to accept my money when I wanted to pay. Zzz.. Said her in cantonese, "We are own people, I'll treat you." Well, direct translation coz Chinese people loves the phrase, "Ji gei yan" (own people). LOL~ What made her said that was coz I heard her speaking in cantonese and so asked her where she's from. Apparently she was from Kuang Xi, China whom migrated to Laos decades ago. We were then either speaking to each other in Mandarin or Cantonese. COOL RIGHT? ^^

Day 5

It's arts and crafts for the kids again! We made caps with paper mache. Basically pasting newspaper on balloons, let it out to dry and bursting the balloon. After the art class, we went to visit Ming's house which was within walking distance. Her mum, a teacher from the same school warm heartedly welcomed us and even played Theresa Tang's karaoke DVD for us. LOL. We also visited Jimmy and Tuktik's house which were surprisingly magnificent. ^^

Back at school for construction work, we met some older students who had just completed their Form 5 equivalent working together as volunteers. The awesome thing about Laotians is that they are very expressive according to Peter. Saying which if they like you, they'll tell you, if they miss you, they'll tell you.... if they think you're pretty, they'll tell u immediately. Haha~ So it's nice to be around Laos receiving many "Zhao ngam lai" (you're pretty) during our stay there. From the lodge staff members, the guy grads, children, contractors, teachers, immigration officer...muahaha... XD All you must be tempted to go to Laos now. =P Alright, enough about being vain....

That night's dinner was the most sumptuous one comprising of BBQ Chicken, sticky rice and PAPAYA SALAD. Papaya salad and sticky rice are basically Laos cultural food. ^^ HIGHLY RECCOMENDED!
